For over a century, The Detroit Zoological Society has been fostering meaningful connections among people, animals, and the natural world. They offer engaging experiences that educate and inspire the  community, prioritize the care and conservation of animals, and advocate for a healthier natural world through sustainability. Their efforts ignite positive change and build lifelong connections.

While their commitment to these connections remains true, the Zoo continues to evolve. As they strive to be a catalyst for positive change in a world where animals and nature are valued, understood, and protected by all, they are thrilled to introduce a new brand identity that celebrates their mission.

Rebranding after more than 25 years

Before May 2024, The Detroit Zoo has only ever had three water tower designs in its history. The first, when it opened in 1928, another in 1986, and a third shortly after in 1998. When they began reimagining their visual identity over two years ago, they aimed for a modern yet timeless design that embodies their organization's future. Their new branding enables them to share their story in fresh and exciting ways. The dynamic shapes in their logos and branding serve as a canvas to highlight how the Detroit Zoo fosters meaningful connections daily, and underscores their vital conservation efforts.

The zoo's organization-wide rebrand, included a total makeover to the iconic water tower, new websites and logos for the society, the zoo, and the Belle Isle Nature Center. Additionally, the Detroit Zoo collaborated with Electro-Matic Visual to install two new LED displays, two roadside monument signs, and an incredible 18-foot-wide photo op sculpture.
