We want you to get to know Electro-Matic Visual Team member, Alan Nicholson! 

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Lansing, MI.

Where did you go to school?

Went to Grand Valley State University. I earned my degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. I always dreamed of managing a golf resort someday. Some of the resorts I worked at prior to joining Electro-Matic include the JW Marriott Marco Island and The Inn at Bay Harbor near Petoskey, MI. After graduating from GVSU I moved to Chicago and worked in sales for several hotels around Chicago. I owe a lot of my success at EM to the customer service and sales training I learned early in my hospitality career.

How long have you worked for Electro-Matic?

After my wife & I decided to move from Chicago back to Michigan, a mutual friend connected me with Electro-Matic. I thought it was ideal timing to learn about a new industry and try something different. 9 years later I’m still happy to be working at Electro-Matic. The sign really is a fascinating world and I’m honored to be a small part of it. I love how different each project is and the ability to be creative.

What is your job title and what are your responsibilities?

Regional Sales Manager. I specialize in LED signage and LED lighting within Michigan and Indiana. I also support the sales efforts for our other sales reps in Illinois, Metro Detroit, & Ohio. I regularly attend tradeshows & conferences, work with the marketing department on various projects, and help grow our social media following with engaging content.

Fun fact/hobby(ies):

My wife Lindsey and I have been married for 14 years and have two girls, Oliva (9) and Harper (7). When I’m not watching our girls play sports of some sort I enjoy golf in my (limited) free time. I’ve had 2 holes-in-one in my career & have a collection of over 65 putter headcovers. Also, our family is big Disney fans. I won’t say how many times I’ve been to Disney World over the years…it’s too many. If you ever need tips for an upcoming Disney trip I’m your unofficial expert. It would be an honor to do a digital signage project with Disney someday. I’m the middle child of 3 boys. My older brother is an electrical engineer here Michigan while my younger brother fights forest fires out west as part of the US Forest Service Hotshot crew.
