Suburban Collection Showplace is Michigan’s premier exposition, conference, and banquet center. The facility features 214,000 square feet of exhibit floor, 25,000 square feet of pre-function space, and 19 individual break-out rooms. They host all kinds of events ranging from the Michigan State Fair, Motor City Comicon, and the Michigan Golf Show.

The Situation
Suburban Collection Showplace had virtually no signage. They had marquees off of 96 and Grand River, but beyond that, all they had was little freestanding boards with slide-in letters. The event coordinators would have to pull out and organize each individual letter needed for the message and then their parking guys would go and slide them in letter by letter with little red arrows.

Technical Situation/Analysis
Suburban did already have one Electro-Matic Display from 2013, but they wanted to take advantage of the new advances in technology. So, they came back to add twelve more throughout the campus.

Objective for Situation
The main purpose of their new digital signage was, firstly, to be more effectively informational —promoting shows and events, and reaching a wider audience in the traffic driving by the property. It was also important for them to get reliable display technology that could be used in the case of emergencies. They wanted to be able to widely communicate with everybody on the property. “When we’re hosting an event that’s as big as the Michigan State Fair, we need a way to communicate to the attendees if there something going on—where they should go, what they should do, etc. It’s comforting to know we’re able to do that kind of widespread communication throughout the whole facility now,” said the Director of Communications and Customer Relations, McKenzie Bowman.

Solution

Electro-Matic provided the following displays:

  • (7) high resolution 6’ x 3’ 6mm
  • (1) high resolution 3’ x 20’ 6mm Ticket Window Sign
  • (2) 5’ x 30’ 11mm displays Main Entrance
  • (1) 10’ x 20’ 11mm display  New Expansion area
  • (2) 12’ x 24’ 16mm displays for their Marquee.
Benefits of Solution

Suburban was able to utilize one software platform to control both the Electro-Matic product on the exterior and its LCD TV products internally. It was important for them to work off of one system to control both products.

After just five months, they’ve already received amazing feedback. Bowman states, “The city is in love with them, and all of our clients have been so impressed. They’re all trying to find new ways to use them and implement them in their events. When we have somebody that’s taking the whole building, they can buy all the signage, rent it out, put up custom content to really engage their guests, and get them to exactly where they need to go. The staff loves it too because they don’t have to go out to the parking lot and switch out all the letters anymore.” She continued, “It’s so easy to operate and it’s been so great to be able to orchestrate everybody coming in through the parking lots. We’re able to organize much more efficiently now.”

"This has been such a great experience all around. I love working with Electro-Matic, they’re amazing. Everyone is extremely responsive, attentive, and efficient."
